Givanildo Vieira de Souza, I’m not calling him Hulk, is an example of a player whose ability has been vastly exaggerated by playing in an inferior league. It’s not that he’s a bad player, it’s that the weaknesses in his game are forgiven by the poor defensive standard in Portugal. He’s a highlight reel forward, not a 90-minute contributor.

Additionally, if Villas-Boas is actually serious about bringing the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge, then he’s going to have to part with an awful lot of Roman Abramovich’s cash. To give you an idea, Porto inserted an £85m buyout clause into this contract, and while that’s not a true indication of the asking price, it wouldn’t be far off.

No, no, no… this is not the way to prolong your tenure Andre. You can not pay that kind of fee for a player who’s been playing out of context all his career.

On the basis also that Daniel Sturridge and Juan Mata are both left footed, is AVB really proposing having three left-footed forwards leading his line?
