Of course, this is from The Mail, and so it’s probably completely untrue – but how anybody on their sportsdesk thought any of the fans on either side of this deal would buy that is beyond me.
Charlie Adam belongs in the bottom quarter of the Premier League on a good day – or in a pub league on a bad one – and as such the chances of Martin Jol biting on him are fairly remote.
Regarding the bigger picture here, Dempsey’s a good player, but anything Liverpool spend on him would really be better directed at Gaston Ramirez or someone else of similar quality – especially, if as suspected, Fulham are going to want £10m and above for the American.
If I had to bet on it, I’d say Clint Dempsey will still be a Fulham shirt when the season starts – this doesn’t really make a lot of sense anymore.
