Don’t let the fact that Luuk De Jong looks a bit like Roman Pavlyuchenko prejudice you against him, De Jong is the complete modern forward that the Russian was never capable of being.
It now looks like a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor is very unlikely; having a ruck with your manager will do that. No deal for the Togalese will leave Spurs without the type of targetman that allows their system to operate fluidly – just watch the drop when Jermain Defoe has tried to deputise for Adebayor this season.
So, Tottenham need to go shopping in the ‘forward’ department this Summer – and on their checklist should be ‘physique’, ‘touch’, ‘finishing’, ‘ability to bring others into the game’, and ‘creativity’. Add those all up, and you have FC Twente’s De Jong.
A perfect fit.
As much as you may deride the Eredivisie, it’s an absolute hotbed of talent at the moment, and you really can’t dismiss De Jong’s 28 goals in 34 appearances as being purely down to facing inferior defenders every week. He’ll be twenty-two in August, and is well worth a look for whoever the Tottenham manager is once Triffic has done a bunk to England.

No way would he be given that much time and space in the Premier League. I wouldn’t want him at Spurs as I don’t think he’d find it as easy as it seems at this level.
100% agree. He’s young and coming off the back of 2nd season scoring 20+ goals. Yes the Dutch league isn’t the prem but Suarez looked ok as has van persie and let’s not forget old horse face Rudd. I’d snap him if I was levy and a bid of 12-15m would easily get him or even a player plus cash deal. I would also keep it in the family for midfield and buy his slightly older brother Siem De Jong from Ajax….over 6ft, good engine and scores goals from centre mid. I think it’s time to go Dutch this summer!
