When players make these kind of comments, they make it sound as if the final outcome of the season is completely independent of what they themselves are doing on the pitch. Anybody who watches Bale on a regular basis will have noted his increased tendency to play in central areas – and, forgive the phrase, but it’s fucking up Tottenham’s universe. Bale is a winger, when he shifts infield his productivity halves itself – additionally, his apparent fondness for playing low-percentage football is starting to frequently derail Spurs’ attacking progress.
Gareth Bale is currently playing for Gareth Bale’s best interests, not Tottenham’s.
Luka Modric is the same. The Croatian will doubtless spend the off-season agitating for a move, citing a bigger stage and a bigger pay cheque as motivation, yet his performances over the last six months have been dismal. If Bale and Modric had played to their potential in the second half of the season, Daniel Levy could already by projecting the club’s Champions League revenue for next year.
If eight-to-ten additional games in a different competition is really the degree of separation between staying and leaving a club, then maybe these players need to be moved on regardless? Either way, don’t hang threats over your club when the season is still in progress.

Absolutely spot on mate! It’s about time Modric and Bale pulled their collective fingers out of their backsides and did something constructive about getting us into the top 4…after all, they are still happy to collect their handsome rewards for kicking a ball around for a living! If people in the real world performed as badly as they have of late, they wouldn’t be looking at moving to another company in a better role, they’d be looking at joining the ranks of the unemployed!
It’s pathetic when players say this especially in the case of bale and modric, although I’m surprised no one catches onto the fact that these people are thick as fuck hence why they sign long contracts, in effect they are spoilt little children that think they can do whatever they want, if they were intelligent they would play they heart out every game and if they didn’t get into Europe they could move on with their heads held high like fabregas but no modric and perhaps bale decide to be little bitches and play poor to force a move, all it does is piss levy off and makes him refuse to budge so I say bravo to him, bale has gotten to arrogant to play he seems to believe he is messi hence why he moves around everywhere and cocks up every time unfortunately Harry is even stupider and won’t do anything about it so this will only continue, I would rather have an average player that plays he heart out and is loyal to the club than a superstar who is always beefing himself up.
Yep. Agreed. Don’t want to play for us, don’t bother. We’ll get 45mil+, and all we need to do is fine a 15 goal a season midfielder. That shouldn’t be too difficult with 45mil+. So all in all, I couldn’t care less if he stays or goes.
Similarly with modric, if a foolish chairman is silly enough to part with 40mil, let’s have it and buy a frank lampard mk2.
