Come on, it was bound to happen.

Following the quotes in the press from Rafael Van der Vaart after Sunday’s North London derby, everybody’s least-favourite tabloid has tried to douse the story in petrol to give it as much life as possible.

‘Harry Redknapp tells Rafael Van der Vaart to ‘SHUT IT!’,’ screams the headline in The Sun.

Actual quotes from Redknapp:

“It does seem to be a problem. Rafa can’t run back and chase the full-back. Against the better teams it is a problem. Rafa’s best position is in the middle, playing just behind the front man.
The only problem is that Jermain Defoe plays there too and Jermain is playing very, very well at the moment. So, I guess I have got a decision to make, haven’t I? I suppose it’s now between Rafa and Jermain over who plays in the team.”

The moment where the Spurs manager actually tells his attacking midfielder to ‘SHUT IT!’ must have got lost then…

    The Sun have to alter the quotations that people make for their readers.
    For this reason Mr Chamberlain of Arse will never be popular with them.
    As for our Harry praising Defoe for playing well, then i do not see it, as with some people you know will come good or can achieve you know defoe will never score more than 15 goals a season, for that he should be out

    It wasn’t just ‘SHUT IT’, My mum’s dog’s collar’s second cousin’s ex-girlfriend’s mate said that ‘Arry actually said ‘SHUT IT YOU SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG’

    True story, ‘Arry called vDV a slag.

    I see you’ve conveniently missed out this bit of the quote – “Rafa is a terrific footballer. He has great skill. But if you’re in the team and asked to do a job, really, you should just do it,” said Redknapp. – which would kind of tranlate to being told to ‘shut it’c – looks like you’re just as bad as the Sun… missing a convenient part of the dialogue to give your story more strength… I hope you have now climbed down off your high horse
