Robbie Fowler managed to upset a few people this week, with his ‘Suarez and Evra’ plan going down like a lead balloon, but let’s be clear – this was a well-intentioned suggestion which in no way warrants the kind of animosity with which it’s been met.
Fowler, quite frankly, has earned the right to have a voice in such situations, and actually in a more mature world Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra laying flowers at respective ends would have been, if not an antidote, then a remedy to some of the ugliness which has existed between the two clubs.
Some sites, mainly those who ply a trade by appealing to the lowest common denominator, have ridiculed Fowler for the suggestion and implied that nothing would be more effective at disturbing the temporary peace that will hopefully exist at Anfield on Sunday lunchtime.
That’s probably true, and maybe the wounds from the incident involving the two players are still too raw, but there’s some sense here – and after all, isn’t Sunday supposed to transcend football and, for once, be about harmony?
All that Fowler is really guilty of here, is of misjudgement – the perception being that mending the Evra/Suarez fences is something that belongs to another day and shouldn’t be allowed to take the focus away from Hillsborough. It’s hard to disagree with that, but let’s just remain calm, because some of the bile directed at Fowler on Twitter has been wholly unacceptable – he was making a suggestion which he believed to be in the best interests of both clubs and the occasion itself.

Fowler is right partly Suarez and Evra could do something together but my be not infront of opposition fans but to each other in the middle of the field together.
Of course he’s entitled to an opinion. Everyone is. The suggestion, however, is bizarre. When all the pre-match focus is on Hillsborough, Fowler is trying to knock two birds with the one stone. If both clubs, as expected, go ahead with this suggestion it will more than likely involve the two captains – that would make much more sense.
