So Stoke fans’ justification for booing Aaron Ramsey yesterday was what – that he made the most of a badly-broken leg? That he tactically fractured both his tibia and fibula to get Ryan Shawcross sent off?
Come on now, that’s not acceptable – that’s way beyond the realms of ‘banter’.
This kind of behaviour is the product of the advanced tribalism that has poisoned the game – it’s what compelled Liverpool fans to blindly defend Luis Suarez, and it’s the same reason that Chelsea fans rush to John Terry’s defence whenever he kicks a child or robs a pensioner.
Aaron Ramsey’s career could’ve ended at the Britannia Stadium in February 2010, maybe we should all just be thankful that he recovered from such a horrible injury.
Stoke fans are, by and large, a credit to their club, but yesterday was embarrassing – a real black mark on the league. Football’s not that kind of game anymore, if it ever was – so just stop it.
