EPL News 24/7This is another rumour which has dragged on through the Summer, and now The Journal have picked up on Sunderland’s apparent interest in Steven Fletcher.
Yeah, it makes sense.
Fletcher almost certainly won’t be staying at Wolves after their relegation, and by all accounts Martin O’Neil has been following him for a while.
He may look about 40, but Fletcher is actually a very decent player – and a better one than his 12 goal return last season suggests. Everybody knows about his aerial ability, but he’s also decent on the floor – as Sunderland fans will remember from their game at Molineux earlier in the year.
With Nicklas Bendtner gone, and Asamoah Gyan have sacrificed his career to the Oil Gods, O’Neil needs a forward – and preferably one who can play alone if required. Fletcher can tick that box, and for a reported £7m he’d be a decent buy.
Expect this to get done before too long.

Wolves will do a deal with Fletcher – one more year, if we dont go up he can leave with everyones blessing – we did that with Lescot a few years ago. Jarvis is having such a meeting at Molineaux next week. We are in the black, we don’t need the money, we certainly won’t let him go for what we paid for him. So Sunderland will need deep pockets if they want him now.

£7m for Fletcher – Wouldn’t happen. Do some research! We paid £7m, he is in a long term contract and had a wage drop on relagation built into his contract. If Wolves sell him it WILL be for a profit. £10m+.
