EPL News 24/7If this headline had appeared three years ago, then QPR fans would have every reason to be excited – as it is, Roque Santa Cruz now only represents a drain on resources. That may sound harsh, but the player is living and breathing example of what a bad move can do to a good career.
Anyway, he’s had this to say about a possible reunion with Mark Hughes:
“Everybody knows that I have big respect for him and will always be very thankful to him for the time we worked together.
I hope that he will have a great season and achieve his goals.
Who knows? I want to play, I want to do good and I want to be successful. Who knows, we might work back together.
I haven’t spoken to him or anybody so it might be a long way to happen, but the important thing for me is to be fit and try to go to a place where I will play.”

Amazingly, Santa Cruz is still a Manchester City player, despite contributing 4 goals from 24 games across three years. He is the archetypal victim of big wage syndrome – wallet before career. The Paraguayan was a good top-half of the league player, but he must have known that of any given period of time, City’s affluence would eventually make him redundant to their future. That’s what has happened, and in his two years away on-loan he’s managed a sum total of seven goals.
QPR don’t need him a thirty year-old forward whose confidence has evaporated, and Mark Hughes will almost certainly know that.
Forget what he was, and look at what he is now – no chance this gets done.
