EPL News 24/7By all accounts, West Ham and Wolves have reached an impasse in the negotiations for Matt Jarvis, with Wolves rejecting an initial bid of £6m and £3m in add-on clauses.
Wolves are doing a good job of playing hardball over their players this Summer.
From West Ham’s perspective, Jarvis is not worth more than they’ve already bid for him. He’s one of those players that looks very exciting in highlights packages, yet doesn’t actually deliver that much – 4 assists in the Premier League last season, 6 the year before. That’s useful, and would’ve probably been more had he played for a better team, but there’s nothing there to warrant paying the kind of money Wolves want for him.
Just as with Sunderland’s pursuit of Steven Fletcher, Stale Solbakken is determined to make vulture clubs pay over-the-odds for the main components of his side – reasonably so, that’s part of his job. But West Ham shouldn’t bother playing this game, there are better players for that kind of money. As an example, Wigan are currently trying to loan Ryo Miyaichi from Arsenal – so that would be worth getting involved in.
Look at the deals that have gone through so far this Summer. Swansea’s capture of Jonathan De Guzman on-loan, West Brom doing a similar deal for Yassine El Ghanassy – that’s the kind of signing West Ham should be looking at. I fully expect Sam Allardyce’s side to survive relegation, but at the same time they can’t afford to be making £10m purchases just in case they don’t. If they were paying that kind of fee for someone who guaranteed survival, a real difference-maker, then fine – but that’s not Matt Jarvis.
Softly, softly – and additionally, if there is money to spend then it should be pumped into improving that defence.

Jarvis is the best winger in the country.. If that failure Downing is worth £20 Million, then West Ham would be getting a bargin a £9 million.
Truth is they cant afford any more than that, which is why they have only really offered £6 million… (£3 million in add ons 2 years later)
West ham are a small time, Wolves are a bigger club and financially better off, even in the Championship. Wolves have only sold 2 fringe players so far and have already spent more than West Ham in new signings.. Come to think of it Gary, I don’t see West Ham as a premiership team and apart from last season don’t remember them not being in a relegation battle !!!!
@Andy, so you think that Wolves not wanting to sell their 2 most in demand players who do NOT want to play for them is not going to backfire. Think you need to read your history regarding players who don’t want to play for their clubs. Bottom line is they are overpriced mediocre players playing in a below mediocre side I wouuld’nt want either of them at Upton Park

your right you dont need to sell wolves made 2.2 m last year awesome and that is great for any team. I just dont think the man is worth the money your team or asking, West Ham should drop this one and get a few players on loan . The way things or in Spain we could get 2 players for the price of 1 here and better players at that
I hope Wolves keep Jarvis. Four assists tells you all you need to know about this bit part player. Stay clear of him.
They want to keep their best players, fair enough as we were the same this time last year with that last minute bid from Turkey for Cole which if I remember rightly was quite a significant one.
BUT, if they think that Fletcher and Jarvis are worth £25m combined then they’re pissing in a bloody tornado. They need to realise the financial reality of relegation and cash in because I don’t see them as a Premiership team because I can’t remember the last time they weren’t in a relegation battle.
andy, you miss the point. Both players will be sold before the end of this window, your better off cashing in a fair price now, with time to replace them, than holding out for your valuation. The main point you miss is that neither of these players WANT to play for you any more, both have handed in transfer requests, so sitting back all smug thinking they will do as they are told because we dont have to sell, simply does not work (defoe is the perfect example for all them hammers fans out there). Both will be sold and i tell you now, if they are sold in the Jan window after 5 months of throwing their toys out, you can forget the kind of figures your seeing banded around at the moment.
For whats its worth, i dont think we should be paying anywhere near £9m for Jarvis, that buys you one hell of a player in spain these days, so if it were my call, i would walk away now, luckly for Wolves our lot think hes worth that.
IMHO Wolves would be better off selling Jarvis to whoever because he wants to leave, and I think we have all seen players who have lost that desire to play for a club, be it for more money or for a percieved ‘better’ club
Im a West Ham fan but looking at his stats, I’d tend to agree, he isnt woth upping the offer for.
Stevie, Wolves do not need to sell, hence that is why they are holding out for big offers. If they don’t sell Jarvis then that’s great for Wolves. Wolves are not being greedy – why sell if you don’t have to? It’s the same with Fletcher. If Wolves sold both they would need to replace them – by not selling them it will most definatly NOT back fire on them.
Jarvis is not worth the money there asking but theres a third party with there hand out also and there looking 15% of the action. Wolves or being greedy and silly this could back fire on them West Ham or the only team with a offer on the table. Get a few players on loan and let them pay his wages for the season
