It’s nothing to do with QPR, more that he’s just an ex-Manchester United player who seems to exist as manager because of having played at Old Trafford. He’s a marginally more successful Steve Bruce.
Rangers are an affluent club, and Tony Fernandes seems to willing to throw his financial muscle into keeping them in the Premier League. Good, because QPR are one of the founding members of the division, and it just feels ‘right’ having them there.
But Mark Hughes isn’t the right person for this job. Look at his record: a decent spell at Blackburn, and some fleeting success with the Welsh national team. If Mark Hughes wasn’t ‘Mark Hughes’, he wouldn’t even be on the shortlist for Premier League clubs when they go manager shopping. He’s symbolic of the merry-go-round carrying the same old faces to the same jobs, season after season.
Is that harsh? Maybe – but in my defence, Hughes’ Rangers got beaten 5-0 at home by mid-level club yesterday. And they weren’t just defeated, they were completely humiliated – it was an absolute clusterfuck at Loftus Road.
We’re big Swansea and Michael Laudrup fans on this site; the Dane will do well at the Liberty Stadium and don’t be surprised if they finish in the top-half this year.
But 0-5? Come on, that’s the kind of result that makes you want to burn your season-ticket. Completely unacceptable.
Look at the players that Hughes picked yesterday: Ji-Sung Park, Junior Hoilett, Rob Green, Samba Diakite, Fabio, Djibril Cisse – that’s not a side that should be losing like this?
Surviving relegation last season may appear to be an endorsement of Hughes’ appointment, but realistically that was the bare-minimum that should have been expected after what was spent in January. QPR should never have been fighting for their lives on the last day of the season, nor should they have been finishing below Wigan or a toothless Aston Villa.
Yes, maybe this is a ‘rush to judgement’, but how else can you treat what happened yesterday? It was abysmal.
Looking at the fixtures in QPR’s immediate future, it’s perfectly conceivable that the side, if they don’t take something from Carrow Road next Saturday, will be pointless heading into October. Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham in succession? Play like they did yesterday, and they might as well default in those games.
You can get 12/1 on Hughes being the first manager to be dismissed this season; right now, that’s incredibly generous.

I think you may be right,when we signed Green my friends who support West Ham were glad to see the back of him,can you name a so called top flight keeper who drops more clangers,Sundays opener when we the better side started the rot so his he any better than Kenny not in my book.Then we badly need a central defender,who does he buy ? Nelson who managed about ten minutes for Spurs last year and they were happy to get shot of ,well past his sell by date.Andrew Johnson another player well past his best and since when has Alex Ferguson let anyone who he rates as a good player go out on loan to anyone? Hoilett looks like another Wright Phillips only younger but about as effective.This type of signing is not what I would call money well spent and not very ambitious.Why not save the money you spent on no hopers and pay more for better players,more quality than quantity thats whats needed.Q PR dont seem to have a scouting system that finds good players like other teams do so we seem destined to always buy players no one else wants.
Completely agree….it’s not the quality of the personnel it is how they are managed. We avoided relegation last season due to the passion of our fans at those difficult end of season home games, winning games in which we were still tactically naieve. The wins against Liverpool, Spurs etc were won by the power of Loftus Rd not astute tactical nouse. Barton played a huge role, whereas our defence, which is substantially the same this season, lacked maturity and without Hills passion, we would have conceded bundles more. I am concerned we could see a repeat of the Chris Wright era. Tony F and Amit B may be so in awe of Mr Hughes and Mr Joirachbian they may just believe in the emperors new clothes
