Mansfield CEO Carolyn Still ‘engaged’ to the club Chairman
The cynic in me was expecting this moment.
Apparently Carolyn Still, who was appointed CEO of Mansfield Town in early September, is now engaged to John Radford, the club’s owner.
No! Never!
Mr Radford has denied that the relationship between the two of them was in any way relevant to him appointing her to the role, and has insisted that the appointment was made on purely footballing grounds.
Hold on. Sorry. What?
‘But she is very good at her job. She has held very high positions at multi-million pound companies and she will be very effective for Mansfield Town Football Club.’
Right, but that’s not quite true though is it? I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that Miss Still was in fact an Account Executive in the fashion industry – it’s not exactly a classic breading ground for senior football club officials.
Spectacular nepotism added in to the mix, all this now looks like is a rich man appeasing his younger soon-to-be wife with a well-paid job. If that proves wrong I’ll apologise, but as long as this kind of thing happens in football it will just serve to build-up more stereotypes about women’s involvement in the game. All Mansfield have achieved, is the creation of a new set of taunts for the next, genuine, female CEO that enters the boardroom.
Who would’ve thought that this perma-tanned, peroxided, botoxed, suspiciously-young woman wasn’t absolutely the best candidate that interviewed for the job?
Shocker.

Excellent point Jim, really well-made. I was hoping that someone actually from Mansfield would comment. I feel very sorry for the fans, it’s not the right way to be running a football club.
Spot on. I’m from Mansfield and think this has embarrassed the club and the town. The place already has a reputation for backwards behaviour and this only reinforces it. You could tell from the wishy-washy interview she knows nothing about football and she was even quoted as saying she doesn’t have a clue about the game. So what does she have? An irrelevant degree, some post uni experience in London she has exaggerated because of the brand name prestige, a stint at Seabrooks crisps and lots of work gaps in between. A fan found an interview in a Leeds newspaper article about city living and said she was a big partier and always late. Hardly CEO material for a club that has had enough crap recently. Denying the relationship hasn’t helped either and has made them both look dishonest and pathetic. They hid it because they know it stinks. As you rightly say this type of appointment puts woman in football back 20 years. To think they naively courted the publicity, patting themselves on the back for hiring a young woman. But furthermore the situation isn’t helped by male fans who decide to turn a blind eye to this shambles because she is ‘fit’.
