Man City’s Balotelli being ‘victimised’
Ah, welcome back Mino Raiola, we haven’t heard from you for a while. The toad-like agent of Mario Balotelli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has weighed-in on the FA’s decision to ban his Italian client for 4 games.
“So (the FA charge) comes at a very bad time. But if every week some referee wants to get at Mario then maybe we’ll have to say that’s enough and maybe have to see our luck in another country.”
Raiola went on to clarify his comments, clearly after a phone call or two from City:
“We are not looking at all to move – not this year and not next year. We have the idea with Mario that he wants to stay in the Premier League for a long time.
For sure not this transfer window. It’s not our intention, let that be clear, we don’t want to leave.
The club is fantastic and Mario loves it. He’s starting to really feel at home.”
Look, I like Mario Balotelli, I think his madcap craziness is actually quite good for the game, and for maintaining public interest in a sport dominated by, for the most part, extremely bland athletes. But really, come on now, being banned for trying to stamp on Scott Parker’s head is not an example of the FA victimising a player.
Balotelli is a maverick, and an outrageously talented player, but his temper does sometimes cloud his judgement – which is quite common amongst gifted players, Eric Cantona anybody?
But please, spare us Raiola’s bleating…

Echoing what Ashley Wilkinson wrote on his blog: the one thing (at the moment) that separates Mario Balotelli from Cantona, is Eric Cantona’s consistency.
Maybe he will mature into a world class professional … but who is completely bonkers.
I’m not sure you can justifiably say Balotelli was “trying to stamp on Scott Parker’s head” you might get away with “it looked like he tried to stamp on someone”. Can you be certain he tried ? can you be certain he knew it was parker ( who should have been off for 3.5 yellows anyway), can you be sure he knew it was the players head on the floor behind him ?
As for victimisation take a look at the yellow card he got in the same game, worth a yellow in your honest opinion ? if so then parkers 3.5 yellows should be revised up to about 5 I think. How about the 2 yellows against liverpool ? compare those to Glen johnsons tackle. see where I’m going with this ?
