This looks like it’s going to happen.
Jean-Michel Aulas, President of Lyon, confirmed this evening that his club are close to agreeing a fee with Tottenham for French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and that the decision over whether to move to England now rests with the player.
Lloris has been public about his desire to leave Stade Gerland, and Tottenham looks like the only option available to him if he wants that new challenge.
Nobody should have anything but the greatest respect for the level Brad Friedel has maintained for the last decade and a half, but any club with a reasonable shot at signing someone of Lloris’ calibre would be crazy up the opportunity. Friedel will probably retire at the end of this season, and if he continues to be first-choice at Spurs until then he wouldn’t let anybody down – but this is a better option, a chance for Andre Villas-Boas to significantly upgrade one of the positions in his team.
Lloris is one of the best five goalkeepers in Europe and he’s about to enter his prime, he’d be first-choice for any club in the country.

As purely a spurs fan this makes me ridiculously excited. I think this guys brilliant. But I would feel sorry for brad losing his consecutive appearance streak. Also, If he does lose the streak, you can bet the mail will change it into some massive player mutiny about how friedel is angry and wants to go to arsenal! Good. Tottenham need a younger goalie badly and that was highlighted at the end of the West Brom game with Friedel unwilling to come out of the goal and try and impose some order on the chaos in the box.

Bold statement.
So if Spurs sign him, he’ll automatically be the best goalkeeper in England? It begs the question, why no one else tried to sign him. Particularly Man Utd who took a massive risk on a 20 year old last year, who’s know-where near the Spain national side instead of getting a player that’s been the france number 1 since world cup 2010.
