Friday Night Notes – QPR, England, Barcelona, Carlos Tevez & Corinthians

– Kieron Dyer has suffered yet another injury, and no time line has been set for his return to the QPR first-team. Dyer hasn’t played for Rangers since the opening day of the season, when he was forced off with an ankle injury after six minutes. According to Neil Warnock:

“It’s not looking good for Kieron and it looks as if he will need a lengthy rehab,” Warnock told the Fulham Chronicle. There seems to be new ligament problem at the front of his foot, and he has been in a lot of pain. I feel for the lad, especially after the training and effort he’s made to get back.”

Kieron Dyer has only actually taken part in 35 games since 2007, which illustrates quite how bad his injury problems have been.

– Darren Fletcher has flown out to Lichtenstein to take part in Scotland’s game against the minnows tomorrow, the Manchester United midfielder had originally been ruled-out by Craig Levein with tonsillitis.

– Lots of rumours around that Phil Jones will be given his England debut tonight by Fabio Capello, Bobby Zamora also looks set to partner Wayne Rooney. Odds on tonight’s game are here, and odds on all the rest of this evening’s qualifiers are here.

– Pep Guardiola is refusing to sign a new long-term contract at Barcelona, which will presumably encourage every tabloid to start linking him to Manchester City/United/Chelsea with no foundation at all. Thrilling.

– Corinthians have decided not to pursue their interest in Carlos Tevez any further, according to ex-Arsenal midfielder Edu – who is now the Brazilian club’s Sporting Director.

– Anybody that thinks David Beckham’s value as a brand is fading should think again, his income from non-footballing activities apparently rose by 30% last year – according to this article in Sports Illustrated.
