Told you – it was never going to be very long before rumours of Frank Lampard moving to Loftus Road gathered pace. There’s too much convenience here: the geographical location, the Premier League, Lampard’s Uncle managing Rangers.
The Mail have run a story this morning claiming that the midfielder is ‘weighing-up’ a move to Loftus Road, and while that’s probably a little premature, it’s hard to believe that Harry Redknapp and Tony Fernandes won’t make some kind of attempt to bring the player to their club.
There have been rumours about China and MLS, but Lampard very much believes that he’s still capable of competing at the top level of English football, so it’s extremely likely that he’ll consider any offers he gets from within the Premier League. Don’t expect anything like this to happen in January, but if Rangers survive – and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t – then it’s realistic that Lampard could be seen as someone to build a team around, after all, it’s not as if Fernandes would be struggling with the wages.
Lampard has always been in excellent physical condition, and he’s never had a serious injury, so there’s no reason why he couldn’t play on at his current level for two or three more years. He’s obviously not what he once was, but he remains a comfortably above average Premier League player.
