Chelsea targeting Donetsk winger Willian

The Daily Mail this morning has Chelsea bidding in the £20m-range for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Willian – 23-years-old, Brazilian, and with two caps for his country.

According to Shakhtar’s CEO Sergei Palkin:

“We have no burning desire to sell the player, but in football some things are impossible to avoid.

If it weren’t for our good relationship with Chelsea – and Willian does not hide his intention to test himself in one of the best clubs in the English Premier League – we would insist on the £29m release clause written into the player’s contract.

It is important to understand that we are talking about Chelsea’s desire to buy Willian, but not Shakhtar’s desire to sell him.”

Fine, although when the article says that ‘Sportsmail can reveal’, surely they mean Sergei Palkin has revealed?

Chances of this happening? I don’t know, but it seems that Chelsea are currently being linked with every semi-elite level under-25 year-old in football.
