In all likelihood, the deterioration in the relationship between Sunderland and Asamoah Gyan will always have a question mark against it. That being said, the players decision to join Al Ain on a permanent basis speaks volumes about his priorities.
With all due respect to football in the UAE, it has no merit to it other than its affluence. Gyan has chosen the path of least possible resistance. It’s mystifying, because even if he didn’t want to be a Sunderland player, it would have taken much effort from his agent to secure a deal back to Ligue 1, or maybe even to La Liga. Al Ain have supposedly agreed a £12m fee for the player, split into two sets of £6m across an unspecified time period, so it’s not as if the transfer fee is particularly off-putting.
This just adds up to the complete surrender of a player’s ambition – he’s 26 year-old and he’s essentially retired.

It is really simply, He signed for Sunderland thinking he was going to get 40k a week and then complained that they did not advise him about paying tax. He then sent his agent to arrange a new deal to the highest bidder and refused to play for Sunderland.
He was under contract with Sunderland when his agent was speaking with other clubs surely this must be a breach of some FIFA rules.
