Alan Shearer really earns his money on television, doesn’t he? All those astute observations, and little details which he garners his analysis with.
Here’s some insightful stuff on why he believes that Newcastle will see off the threat of Benfica in the Europa League Quarter-Final.

Yup, what Newcastle want to do is score some goals, because that’s important, and they also want to not concede goals, because that’s also really important.
They need to give 110% across both legs – anything less and they’d be disappointed with that.
Alan Pardew needs to pick eleven players to start each game, and he needs to tell each player to play well and try and score goals, and not concede goals, and then the rest should take care of itself.
Games are won and lost by goals.
Great Premier League forward though he was, Alan Shearer is the punditry equivalent of Stephane Guivarc’h – there’s no reasonable explanation for his continued involvement.
Come on, Alan, name me five players who currently play for Benfica…

I’m a Newcastle fan and I have to agree he us a terrible pundit but the whole motd panel needs to be axed. Describing someone as “their left back” instead on actually knowing his name us simply not acceptable. For the money they get they should know every single player in the league and what position they playing. Past reputation isn’t a qualification.
