This is what’s known as ‘opportunistic journalism’ – although unfortunately for Caught Offside, authors of this monstrosity, it comes a couple of days too late to be in any way credible.
West Ham are being linked with a move for Rio Ferdinand.
Bet you didn’t see that coming, did you? The moment Alex Ferguson said what he did after the Stoke game, you knew a whole hoard of rumours about Ferdinand were in our collective future. Tremendous.
Had this been published on Sunday, maybe there would have been some doubt over the player’s Manchester United future – but it wasn’t and there isn’t. Ferguson and Ferdinand seem to have made nice, and all is supposedly harmonious at Carrington.
Ferdinand may well be a West Ham product, but there’s nothing more than a bit of sentimentality at the root of this – he’s too expensive and he’s too far past his prime to offer anything like a viable solution for Sam Allardyce.
And that’s only if Manchester United were willing to let him go, which looks like a very remote possibility now.

So true! as much as I would love to see him in a West Ham shirt again, his wages are too high and he’s cream crackered!!! Sam will buy a massive CH with pace, probably senegalese or from another african nation and providing much better value than what Rio would. Have to admit I would love to hear the BM stand roar ‘Riiiiiiooooo” one more time though. Please come back Rio, £20,000 a week?
