Optimistic rumours linking Manchester United with Theo Walcott

The Premier League Owl

This is from Caught Offside, and it’s appropriately ridiculous.

Theo Walcott, Arsenal contract rebel and serial misuser of a football, is being linked with a move to Manchester United – which means that he’s now been the subject of a transfer rumour involving all of the top 6 at one point or another. Very…predictable.

Let’s cut to the chase, United aren’t interested in Walcott, because they already have Luis Nani and there would be no value in bringing in another hugely wasteful winger. Actually, to be fair, Walcott is just a less skilful, less productive version of Nani – and this site isn’t exactly overflowing with praise for the Portuguese.

This will carry on until either Walcott signs his new contract or he leaves, because his value diminishes with every week that passes – he’s free to leave in the Summer, but he’s affordable for pretty much everybody at the moment. He’s not good enough for Old Trafford, and does offer anything that would be particularly useful to Sir Alex Ferguson – he’ll either stay at Arsenal or he’ll move abroad. No chance he goes up the M1.
