Don’t be surprised if this drags on for a bit longer, because new details seems to emerge about Phillipe Coutinho’s proposed move to Liverpool every day at the moment. Yesterday, Sky Italia picked up on Coutinho’s claims that he wanted to stay and fight for his place at Inter Milan.
However, that might not be quite as genuine as it seemed – and Liverpool are pressing on regardless. Sky Sports’ Graeme Bailey reported last night that negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs and that ‘a deal will be completed shortly with Liverpool paying £8m’.
That’s potentially great news, and Coutinho would fit right into this squad – he’s young, he’s talented, and he can mature over time. It’s perfect; given where this Liverpool side is at the moment, they can’t afford to be carrying egos – excuse the nauseating cliche, but they all need to be growing together.
One caveat with Coutinho though: he hasn’t played a lot of football this season, so there might need to be some patience from the fans if this deal does go through.
This is exactly the kind of deal Liverpool should be doing – fingers crossed.
