Dismissing rumours of John Terry leaving Chelsea for Valencia

The Premier League Owl

So a ‘FIFA-registered’ agent has come out on record to claim that John Terry is plotting a move away from Chelsea.

The Mirror are reporting that Francois Gallardo has been party to negotiations between the player and Spanish side Valencia.

Okay then…

Right, firstly, being a FIFA-registered agent is not quite the stamp of authenticity that The Mirror would like it to be – the qualification process makes the Premier League’s ‘Fit and Proper Persons test’ look like an FBI vetting – and one FIFA need to urgently address this..lest we should have to continue to endure this prevalence of immoral representatives in the game.

As for Terry? No, what you should expect is some kind of denial from his camp within the next day or two – probably one which denies any knowledge of a certain ‘Francois Gallardo’. Gallardo is just a chancer, a third-party agent trying to crowbar himself into some kind of commission-paying scenario – that’s how it works.

Terry isn’t leaving Chelsea, because that’s the one club in Europe at which his reputation is intact – regardless of your own beliefs about his character, he’s seen as a huge PR-negative on the outside, and so it’s highly-unlikely that a club like Valencia would want him, even if they could afford his wages…which they can’t, being famously financially-frail. He’s tainted goods, and expensive tainted goods – that’s not an attractive proposition.

Other than that, yeah, it’s a goer…

” ‘Former England captain racially abuses opposing player’ is a big deal outside of this country.”

no it isn’t. seriously, do some research.

    for example:

here is the article linking terry with valencia from marca, the most popular newspaper in spain.

    http://www.marca.com/2012/10/25/futbol/equipos/valencia/1351180790.html

check out the 146 comments: not one of them mentions how they don’t want him in spain because of the alleged racist incident. so the fans of valencia obviously aren’t that bothered by that…are they?

no-one outside of this country gives a toss.

People in Europe do care, because the Premier League is a global product – just as you are presumably aware of the biggest stories in Spain and Italy. ‘Former England captain racially abuses opposing player’ is a big deal outside of this country.

terry’s reputation may be in “tatters” in england but most top european clubs would snap him up in a heartbeat. believe it or not most spaniards don’t read the daily mail & only know terry as a very good defender. across the continent we are seen as officious fools shooting ourselves in the foot & demanding everyone else does the same. our fa is seen as a joke & our press as troublemakers (witness the world cup voting process) & the punishments for perceived racism are nowhere near as cataclysmic (fines in the tens of thousands for whole crowds chanting racist abuse…videotape evidence of busquets repeatedly racially abusing opposition players completely ignored).

the story isn’t true…terry is going nowhere…but your assumption that everyone in europe cares about this whole sorry affair is misguided. it may be different if he was found guilty in a court of law…but he wasn’t.
