The Premier League Owl
‘Tom Ince: my future lies with Blackpool’ is the rather misleading headline this afternoon in The Sun, and it’s the prelude to one of those stories that the tabloid specialises in – where all facts and quotes have been twisted to create an imaginary new angle on a tired old topic.
“My future right now is here.
I’m a Blackpool player, I’m contracted to Blackpool and I’ll continue to give 100 per cent for this team.
I don’t only do it for myself and for the fans but I do it for my team-mates.
These lads are a great bunch of lads. The team spirit in this team is fantastic.”
I’m not sure the Blackpool fans can relax just yet, those comments are fairly time-specific. When players start talking about where they’re contracted and what their future is ‘right now’, that tends not to suggest that they believe their long-term future is at that particular place.
Hats off to journalist David Coverdale though, he’s managed to create a story out of some very benign comments from the player.
‘TOM INCE has dismissed talk of a move to Liverpool and insists his future lies with Blackpool.’
Yeah, he doesn’t really say that though, does he David?
