Goal.com are reporting this morning that Chelsea are very close to signing Vitesse’s midfielder Marco van Ginkel, and claim that the Dutch U21 international will move to Stamford Bridge after the European U21 Championships.
Van Ginkel is described as a box-to-box midfielder, but one who also makes a more tangible contribution to the team – he provided Vitesse with eight goals from midfield in this season’s Eredivisie.
I’m not going to pretend to have watched more of him that just what I’ve seen in the video below, but it’s easy to see why he would be of interest to a big club – and a link with Chelsea, given their long-term positional needs, makes perfect sense.
He’ll be involved with the Dutch squad in Israel, so it’s well worth giving that competition a watch – it starts on the fifth of June.
