Being realistic about Tottenham & Santi Cazorla

These are strange times at Malaga. Despite the affluence of their Qatari owners, and their forthcoming participation in the Champions League, they are supposedly looking to cut costs and, as a result, various sources have reported that playmaker Santi Cazorla is now available for transfer.

This is one of those situations where the story is so bizarre, that you can’t help but believe it – the bigger the lie and all that. Qualify for the Champions League for the first time in your history, and celebrate by dismantling your side.

With Luka Modric destined for Real Madrid any day now, it was only a matter of time before somebody linked Cazorla with a move to Tottenham. As with every midfielder linked with White Hart Lane at the moment, there’s very little substance-wise to really connect him with a move – other than that Spurs will soon have a vacancy in his position. It’s a writer’s dream, because it gives them carte blanche to publish almost anything that they want.

The source here is AS, from Spain, and it’s been picked up on by a few minor English-speaking sites like Caught Offside. As a rule, anything that appears on Caught Offside is usually untrue, so take that as your caveat.

As a general rule, Tottenham are unlikely to be making any solid decisions until the Modric sale actually goes through – so bear that in mind from now on.

Also Spurs should not sell if the amount of time to replace him becomes too short. Madrid should either put up or back out Levy will never sell him at what he considers a loss.
