In one sense, it’s nice to have football content which isn’t about Mark Clattenburg or John Obi Mikel, but in another, it’s essentially valueless because it’s a far-fetched piece of fiction.
Some of you will have seen some internet rumours circulating about Tottenham supposedly being in contact with the representative team of Alexis Sanchez, Barcelona’s Chilean forward. They originated on a Spanish website, and a few British sources have been peddling them ever since.
The sensible amongst you need read no further, because you already know what I’m about to say, but those who are heading down to White Hart Lane ready to get their shirt printed with Sanchez’s name and number, stop, look, and listen…
For better or for worse, Tottenham’s wage structure would never support the employment of a player like Sanchez, he’s probably on double – if not treble – what the highest-earner at Spurs is currently taking home. Additionally, if, and that’s ‘if’, Sanchez did become available, there would be a queue of Champions League clubs ready to talk to him – sadly, it’s just not going to happen.
Just ignore it – and ignore it again when The Sun or Goal.com try and claim it as an exclusive in the coming days.

Double the highest earner at the club? Crikey, Adebayor’s on around £120,000 a week. So that’s around £250,000 a week. Meaning he gets paid around £13,000,000 a year. He doesn’t even start every game. Also, Fabregas had to pay part of his transfer fee by not getting paid for a year. So why would they pay Sanchez so much? :p
Ha – yup, I may have rushed that one…
A “cue” of clubs. Gordon Bennett…
